Nadia Russo

She lost both her parents at a young age being raised by her older sister and by relatives from Kishinev where she attended high school, and later the School of Fine Arts.

In 1925, she married Alexandru Russo but later divorced him when he does not agree with Nadia’s passion for flying. In 1936 she enrolled at the Mircea Cantacuzino School of Aviation where she was trained by Constantin Abeles obtaining her second class pilot license being the eleventh license issued. În 1936, se înscrie la Şcoala de aviatie „Mircea Cantacuzino” și este instruită de Constantin Abeles, obţinând brevetul de pilot Gr. II cu numarul 11. In 1937 she competed for the “Mircea Cantacuzino” Cup and joins the Romanian team participating in the Aeronautic Competition of the Little Entente.

In 1939, she flew in the air show of Râmnicu Vâlcea and participated in the competition for the Braşov Aero Club Cup. She enlisted, starting 1940, in the Health Squadron of the Ministry of Air and Navy. Following her eroic activities , Nadia Russo she was distinguished with the Order of Aeronautical Virtue, Golden Cross class, with the Order of Queen Mary and the Order of the German Eagle.

She died on 19 January 1988, in the town of Buftea.
